I want to tell you that I am very lucky to be part of this amazing program with you all. You have already stepped up into what is going to be an incredible and memorable experience in Central America, both in Nicaragua and Guatemala. From my own perspective a lot of learning and reflection happens when we are away from what we call home, and this journey will be your journey. We ask that you come with a lot of curiosity, enthusiasm, and openness to new experiences. Together we will explore and learn from new places, grassroots organizations, home-stay families and other local people.
My full name is Alan Condori Flores, I attended university at San Francisco Xavier of Chuquisaca in Sucre – Bolivia where I studied tourism, culture, and languages; I speak Spanish, English and French and a native language from Bolivia (Quechua). I have been working for Dragons since 2011 for our summer and semester programs in South America. In 2014 I returned to the city of Sucre-Bolivia, and when not working with Dragons I am the manager of Condortrekkers, a non- profit trekking organization that does social projects both within the city and in the countryside.
I am very excited for this program because we will be visiting awesome places and getting to know incredible people in Guatemala and Nicaragua. I am sure that together we will grow as one community, or ‘A big Family.’ Keep in mind that it is a community you will build yourself by interacting with other amazing peers, local guides, local organizations, small communities, homestay families, and your instructors. I am positive that this experience will open your mind, will nurture you to see different ways of living and different points of view. It will also challenge you to engage and learn about yourself and become a better global citizen.
A bit of my passions in life: I love the mountains and my connection with the Mother Earth. I do a bit of climbing but I am not so good; mostly I think I like the idea of bonding with friends and challenging yourself physically and mentally while interacting with people that are constantly supporting you. And If you have a small guitar or any other music instrument, please bring it with you. I will love to learn from you.
Along with my two awesome co-instructors, we want to let you know that we are here to support you, to guide you throughout the whole journey you are about to embark upon. I am happy because you are becoming travelers and that already makes a huge difference in how we see the world.
That being said, I would love to invite you to use this awesome Yak Board for you all to introduce yourselves and start building our community of travelers. Also, you can use the Yak Board to ask any questions or concerns you might have at any point before the course.
Dear students, families and friends stay tuned because we will be posting important Yaks related to our Itinerary, pre-course assignments, packing list and much more!!!
Nos vemos pronto queridos estudiantes,
Alan Condori Flores
