Trek View on Nepal: Himalayan Studies Gap Year Semester with Where There Be Dragons

Hi everyone!
I feel kind of weird writing this, since I can only imagine you guys reading this at home, and feeling the thrill I have felt every time something new appears on the Yak.. also, I have no idea what to say about myself, but let’s try.
I’m from Bogota, Colombia (not Columbia) and I finished high school last June. My dad was a climber when he was young, so since little I go trekking, hiking or camping whenever I have a chance, and I love spending time outdoors. I also dance almost every day (ballet, jazz and contemporary mainly). In my free time I a also enjoy to read and journal as much as I can.
A few months ago, I was looking what to do for my gap year, and I came across the Dragon’s page. I decided to to the Nepal Semester because it has many aspects that are so special and unique. I love the hiking part, going to the Himalayas is something I thought I wasn’t going to be able to do at the age of 18, it’s going to be an amazing challenge. I’m also really excited to go to the Buddhist monastery. I have always been drawn to Buddhist from what I’ve learn in school and the things my mom what thought me. But the most unique aspect of the course that really made me decide, was how culturally immersive it was. I think the best way to travel is to detach yourself from the preconceptions and judgments you may have, and learn everything there is to know about the people, their way of life, their believes, their history and so on. I’m sure this course will give us that opportunity.

Anyway, I can’t wait to meet you all and start this adventure!
