Hi everyone, I want to introduce myself before we all meet up in a few weeks!
I’m Reilly. I’ve grown up in a small town about an hour north of San Francisco. I just graduated from high school this past June and I want to take a year off before going to college and travel, learn, explore the great outdoors and see what unpredictable interests or passions I might discover along the way. In high school I played soccer, lacrosse and a couple seasons of basketball. Next year, when I attend Bates College in Maine I hope to continue with soccer.
I am interested in going to Nepal because the program sounds unlike anything I have ever done before. The mountains are one of my happy places and I go hiking/backpacking whenever I get the chance so I’m very much looking forward to the trekking portion of our time together (also a little nervous about elevation). I’m interested in religion, particularly Buddhism and I actually just got home yesterday from spending a week at a Zen Center in the mountains here in Northern California. It was my first experience sitting for long periods of time in meditation and although it was pretty hard, overall I’ve found a lot of value in it. I’m curious to see how Buddhism is different in Nepal. Other than that, I’ve spent most of my summer rafting and kayaking the Salmon River, exploring the mountains of Colorado and earning money babysitting and working at a summer camp.
Looking forward to meeting you all!
