Hi Everyone!

My name is Benjamin and I’m from a little town called Mill Valley in Marin County just north of San Francisco. I’m really into photography, hiking, reading meditation, and puns (I would love to brainstorm a list of books we could bring and share for anyone interested). Coming into senior spring, I realized just how drained I was from 12 years of formal education and saw I needed something different before I embarked upon my next four more years of life. I’d only heard of Dragons, but the more I learned about their cultural immersion programs, the more I knew they were for me. I graduated high school this past June and will be attending Bowdoin College in Maine next year.

Nepal, in particular, attracted me since I’ve noticed that recently I’ve been seeking to deepen my connection with nature and spirituality (I also love the mountains). I’m especially excited for the trekking and potential Tibetan meditation retreat since I haven’t backpacked nearly as much as I’d like to and the prospect of learning Tibetan Buddhism from people who have practiced nearly their whole lives is one that I thought I’d only ever dream of until maybe after college. This past year I’ve turned to Buddhism and my local Buddhist center, Spirit Rock, to try and understand how the world works and how I can best participate in it, so this opportunity has come at the perfect time.

I can’t wait to meet you all in New York just under three weeks!
