My name is Blake Amann and I’m from New Orleans, Louisiana. I graduated this past May and will be going to USC in California next fall. Since throughout high school I played basketball, baseball, soccer, and tennis, I felt burned out from nonstop practices and schoolwork that I wanted to take a year off to cool down and have change in pace. In addition to sports, I’m also very big into European and Russian history, reading, and photography.
I chose the Nepal trip in particular for three main reasons. The first reason is that I’ve always loved traveling and wanted to experience something vastly different than what I’ve already experienced. The second reason is that I love hiking and the mountains and thought that there’s no place more unique than Nepal when it comes to trekking. Lastly, over the past year I’ve become interested in Eastern culture and meditation. As an athlete, I’ve read a lot about how coaches and athletes have started to turn to the principles of Buddhism and meditation as a supplement to the mental training of sports. I think that this trip would be a great way to delve into those tenets and see how they affect the human mind.
I’m looking forward to meeting everyone in the coming weeks.
