Trek View on Nepal: Himalayan Studies Gap Year Semester with Where There Be Dragons

Outdoor Leadership Group prepares to hike to a wilderness area.

Hey everyone, my name is Michael and I’m from Greenwich, Connecticut. I graduated school this past spring, and after the Nepal trip I will be attending school in England for a semester before eventually going to Yale University next fall. I played football, baseball, and wrestled in high school. I love fishing, shooting, hiking, skiing, and any other activity involving the outdoors. I enjoy classic rock, movies, and anything by Billy Joel. I am also a huge Chicago Bears fan.

I choose to do this program late one night while watching TV. I didn’t have a deep epiphany or feel somehow drawn to Nepal in any way. Rather, it was a scene from the movie I was watching, Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark, that made up my mind. As I watched Indiana Jones walk into Marion’s bar in Nepal and get into a gunfight with violent assailants, I realized I knew nothing about the country. I figured that going into Nepal with no knowledge about it would be a great way to meet people, form new friendships, and experience different cultures to their fullest extent.

I’m also an avid reader and am wondering what books you guys are bringing. I am bringing The Stand by Stephen King and a few others. Is anybody looking to trade?
