My name is Nils, I am from London, and I cannot wait to step off the plane into Nepal in two weeks. In following with the other participants who wrote on the Yak board, I suppose I will just say a few things about myself. Although I have lived in London for the majority of my life, I was actually born in the US, and have gone to an international/American school. I have always known I wanted to take a gap year, and after relatively extensive research I found Dragons, and subsequently the Nepal Semester. In looking to make my gap year worthwhile, I wanted to find something out of my comfort zone and I was instantly drawn to the Nepal program. For me, the mix and relationship between the religions of Nepal, the Buddhist retreat, and my limited knowledge and experience of Asia made my choice of how to spend part of my gap year very easy.
Back home, I love nothing more than playing tennis, watching soccer, and travelling. Growing up in London has also made me quite a foody, and I often find myself happiest finding some cool, unknown pop-up restaurant where I can gorge myself completely. As I look towards our upcoming trip I am trying to keep an open mind to the new experiences, both awesome and interesting, that I am sure will come our way. For now though, I am just counting the days….
