Trek View on Nepal: Himalayan Studies Gap Year Semester with Where There Be Dragons

Hi everyone, so so excited for the upcoming adventure! My name is Emma. I am from right outside Montpelier, Vermont. I’ve grown up surrounded by gardens, cow fields, and miles of woods. I’m the youngest of my family, have two corgis I’ll probably miss the most, and got to celebrate my brother’s wedding this weekend which was really exciting! Over the summer I worked at a local bakery’s cookie cart and sold maple creemees(our word for soft serve) –definitely ate more sweets than I should have. I will be going to Macalester College after this year, but am looking forward to getting a change of perspective and chance to explore the world a bit before then. I love to hike in the Green Mountains of Vermont and am beyond psyched to trek in the Himalaya. One of my favorite feelings is being up high after a long climb and seeing miles upon miles in every direction.

Like many of you have said, taking this trip to Nepal is a big leap into the unknown. It is a bit out of my comfort zone–but in the best way. I can’t wait to immerse in Nepali culture– seeing everything as foreign and new in the beginning and then hopefully growing to find familiarity and a home away from home. I’ve tried to learn about Nepal over the past few months through little connections around my community, books, and a wonderful Nepali restaurant I found. Each has made me realize how exciting this all is and how much I have to learn. It’s crazy to think about coming back in December as a different version of myself.

Really looking forward to meeting you all!
