Hey guys! My name’s Jane and I’m from San Francisco, California! I am super excited for a year of adventures, and can’t wait to share this one with all of you. After my GAP year, I’m headed off to Colorado College in the fall. I’m currently planning on majoring in environmental studies or anthropology; I’m hoping this trip will allow me to learn a lot more in both of these areas! Im thinking about trying to find some sort of sustainable project for my ISP, maybe working with local artists to make sculptures out of trash? All of the possibilities for the independent project sound awesome!

In terms of family,I have a brother who’s 15 and obsessed with basketball, a little sister who’s 13 and an amazing ballet dancer, two lovely parents, and a fluffy golden doodle named Charlie. I only have two cousins and one of my grandmothers lives a couple blocks away from us. We live in a part of San Francisco called the Presidio, where the government has converted an old military base into rentals and a few restaurants. The area is very forested and we are lucky enough to have the beach nearby!

In my free time I love to surf, chase sunsets, read, collage, take pictures, skateboard, explore the city and parks, and spend time with my buddies! I’m absolutely in love with where I live and feel so lucky to have grown up in such an innovative, creative, and accepting community. This week I’m going to see Haim and Mac Demarco in concert (!!!!), and some of my other favorite artists are Alt-j, Jack and Eliza, and the Grateful Dead — I really do love all genres of music though! A quote that seems to follow me around is “Whatever will be, will be” or “que sera, sera” [in Spanish]. It reminds me to live in the present and that change is one of the only constants. But hey, change is good!!

My biggest worry for the trip is missing home a bit and adjusting to a new diet. Im most excited for the trekking, learning about religion, connecting with new people, learning a new language, and just about everything!

Looking forward to meeting all of you, hearing your stories, and having loads of new experiences together.

Peace!
-Jane
