Intro/Response

Hey guys! My name is Marshall and I currently live in West Hartford, Connecticut. I love being outside, hiking and traveling. I have just graduated from William H. Hall High School and wanted to take a gap year to travel around the world. I found the Where There Be Dragons website and decided to go to Nepal. I chose this trip because I’ve always been interested in Nepal and it’s culture. I also wanted to push myself completely out of my comfort zone and go somewhere where I would be tested both psychically and mentally. I am especially excited for learning the language and seeing what life is like across the globe. See you all next Friday!

(Response to “Why We Travel”)

In Pico Iyer’s “Why We Travel”, one quote caught my eye. “We travel to bring what little we can, in our ignorance and knowledge, to those parts of the globe whose riches are differently dispersed.” This quote popped out at me especially because when one travels they bring a whole culture and lifestyle with them, and when they travel to a location where there is a completely different way of life and it is a whole new experience for them and the people who live there. This is consequential to realize while exploring a fresh region of the world because keeping an open mind is key to being able to soak in a new way of thinking and influence those around you.
