Those were some wicked instructor intros, you Dragons folks are setting the bar high right off the bat eh! I don’t think I’ve ever had to introduce myself like this before, so don’t be expecting some sort of miracle or anything…
My name is Max Abu-Laban, I’m turning 18 in a couple of days and I’m born and raised in Vancouver, Canada! I just graduated from high school this year, which I think must’ve surprised a couple people ;). Almost all of the people I know are going straight off to university, which is cool, but I felt like I really needed to see how the people in a developing country such as Nepal live their day to day life using so much less than we do, and how they find bliss in completely different ways than us monkeys over on this side. I originally got excited and intrigued by the prospect of visiting Nepal when I started reading about high mountaineering in the Himalayas. At first I was into the idea of summiting one of these monstrosities, then it kinda came to me just how unpleasant it would be up there, so that was the end of that idea. But the thought of absorbing the beauty of Nepal was a less fleeting notion…I honestly can’t say I have much of an idea of what to expect from this journey (which is a good thing :), but I can say that the mystique surrounding Nepal, Buddhism’s age old take on spirituality and of course, the Himalayas, are a few things I’m the most psyched on experiencing.
So as far as introductions go, I guess I didn’t really talk about what hobbies and stuff I’m into, but hey! We got 13 hours on Air Etihad #102 for all that stuff don’t we?
You’re all beautiful see ya in 1o days!
