Photos!!!

Here are some bad quality photos of some more high quality people!!! More to come.

We are all settled into our home stays here in Jogja and start our ISP (independent study projects) this coming Monday! Some of the ISPs include woodblock printing, silversmithing, making batik, learning penkchat silat, and playing the gamelan. On Friday we broke up into teams and did a scavenger hunt throughout Jogja. Some of the best tasks include singing a popular Indonesian song with a local Indonesian, befriending a university student, and trying a traditional Javanese meal (ex. Gudeg and sate!) This weekend we are spending time with our individual families. Today, I cooked 75 meals with my family for a special prayer meal in honor of their late grandfather (kakek). All of the women cooked together; aunts, sisters, daughters all working towards a common goal. I felt so honored to be a part of such a significant and personal event. My mama Ardjen, sister Agnes, Bapek Iwan and sister Arum have welcomed me into their family with open arms. Tomorrow we are going to spend the day in Kraton celebrating our cousin Satria’s first birthday. The extent to which Indonesians value family and manifest their love for each other is extremely inspiring. It makes me even more grateful for my own family back home. Salamat tidur and expect more yaks soon!!
