Dear friends and families,
The group is currently wrapping up their final day of trekking around the base of Mt. Ausangate. We have been in regular contact with the instructors, and it sounds like the group has had a challenging and rewarding first foray into the high Andes. They have faced some unusually cold conditions for this time of year, while also taking in spectacular views of glaciated peaks, participating in ceremonies to the Mother Earth at high passes, and honing their trekking skills as a community of travellers. A couple of students departed the trek early due to some mild stomach upset (those students have been in touch with families!), and are currently exploring Cusco with Sandy before re-connecting with the rest of the group on Sunday.
Tomorrow morning the group is scheduled to depart for Puerto Maldonado, where they’ll leave behind the cold and snowy peaks for the tropical heat of the Amazon. Group spirits are high, and student updates should be coming in soon!
Here’s a photo from the town of Pach’chanta, where the group will wrap up their trek this afternoon.
