“We come and go from this world empty handed. The only thing we can take with us is life.” -Kempo
That’s why I joined dragons. I think that’s why most of us joined. To see, to feel, to experience things differently, even just for a little while.
Our stay at Namo Buddha Monastery was a great reminder of that. All the lessons from our Kempo, whether you are a Buddhist or not, were an important reminder to have gratitude for our lives. It was good to take time to appreciate things as they happened. Things such as a beautiful child laughing as she grabbed my cheeks, the prayer flags blowing in the lilac sunset and the vibrant colored birds soaring below us as we stood on the roof. These things could have all slipped by, or not been felt as preciously if we had not taken the time to be grateful for their occurrence. It is important to live presently and to take time to feel joy from moments as they happen to us, not to wait and hope to feel emotions as an aftermath.
