To the Uyuni Salt Flats

Hello family and friends,
The first challenge of our mini expedition phase has gone very well. The students got us from our hostal in Potosí to our hostal in Uyuni safe and sound and then arranged for our three day expedition into the Salar de Uyuni, starting today 10/10 at 10:30 am!
On that note, communication might be limited until our return to La Paz on the 13th – we’ll be mostly in the countryside, and the days will be packed with different adventurous activities.
We are all very excited for two things. First, the natural environment that we are going to explore. It’s high, all over 12,000 ft, and dry, so there’s not much vegetation to block our view. We may see far and wide on the salt flats. There’s also a volcano hike scheduled for tomorrow as well as some rumors of lakes with flamingos and hot springs. Second, more expedition challenges! The instructors have handed over more responsibilities to the students, so they will be challenged to use their Spanish skills, cultural sensitivity, street smarts, and more to put together a fun learning experience for all of us. Yew!
Love,
