Group Update from Rajasthan

Dear friends and family,

So far, the BYIndia group’s time in Rajasthan has proven to be a very pleasing adventure. They are currently in Kotri village where they will be based until January 21st. Staff report that everyone is in good spirits. On their way from Udaipur to the village, the group made a stop at Kumbalgarh Fort, an important UNESCO world heritage site.

During their time in Kotri village, the students will have the opportunity to experience rural, Rajasthani life first hand. Their days will be filled with mini-Independent Extracurricular Activities like tailoring, pottering, cooking, etc. They will also have space to interact with members of the local community (including students from the local school) and there will be time set aside to work remotely for their Varanasi-based service placements. Students will also use this window to continue planning for the student led expedition in Rajasthan that begins December 22nd.

Their typical daily schedule includes:

  • Student morning cooking crew prepares breakfast for group over traditional chula stove.
  • Morning discussions focused on Hindu/Muslim relations, local music/arts, caste relations, village life, etc.
  • Group lunch
  • Afternoon IEAs, remote service placement work and time to interact with local youth via games, etc.
  • Sunset Hindi instruction with staff
  • Student evening cooking crew prepares dinner for group over traditional chula stove.
  • Evening star gazing, poetry sharing, and free time

Please enjoy the attached images of the group’s various activities in Rajasthan.

More updates to come soon!
