Rajasthan Student-led Expedition

For the next three weeks, we will be traveling around Rajasthan, visiting the cities of Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, Pushkar, and Jaipur as part of our student-led expedition. We hope that the summary of our plans below gives a good sense of what we will be up to.

December 22: Depart guest house in the village of Kotri and drive to Jodhpur, where we will settle into our lodging
December 23: Tour Jodhpur’s iconic clock tower and visit the Jaswant Thada
December 24: Free time and exploration in a predominantly Muslim neighborhood near Tunwarji ka Jhalra Stepwell in Jodhpur
December 25: Prepare and then enjoy a Christmas picnic at Mandore Gardens just outside of Jodhpur
December 26: Visit Jai Bhagirathi, an NGO dedicated to addressing the water crisis in the Thar Desert, then see a polo game, still in Jodhpur
December 27: Tour Mehrangarh Fort in Jodhpur and then go ziplining!
December 28: Explore the walking trails of Desert Rock Park, enjoying beautiful views of Jodhpur from just outside the city
December 29: Pack bags and travel by train to Jaisalmer
December 30: Visit a fossil park near our guest house in Jaisalmer
December 31: Travel by car to Khuri, a nearby town from where we will depart on a New Year’s camel safari, welcoming the new year by camping overnight on the dunes
January 1: Visit Jaisalmer Fort after traveling back to the city
January 2: Pack bags and enjoy free time in Jaisalmer, possibly viewing a film before boarding an overnight train to Ajmer
January 3: Arrive in Ajmer at around midday, settle into lodging in the nearby city of Pushkar
January 4: Spend the whole day exploring Pushkar, visiting temples of Brahma and Vishnu
January 5: Travel by train to Jaipur, where we will eat a late lunch and visit the city’s Central Park before settling into our hotel
January 6: Tour Jaipur’s Amber Palace and enjoy free time to explore the city
January 7: Visit two museums in Jaipur: the Jantar Mantar and the SRC Museum of Indology
January 8: Travel to Bagru Textiles just outside of Jaipur, where we will see the block printing process and perhaps make a few block-print designed scarves of our own
January 9: See Jaipur’s iconic movie theater and the Floating Palace

This is the point up to which we have planned at this time, but we will likely spend several more days in Jaipur after the 9th before traveling back to Udaipur, where we will stay until February 1.
