The first is just a tip for you all that I couldn’t help sharing: on my recent travels, I used my regular debit card (Wells Fargo) to withdraw money from foreign ATMs and ended up wasting nearly a hundred dollars in ATMs fees in 6 weeks. I was having to pay 8 to 11 dollars every time I took out money, since my bank would charge me a fee in addition to the one collected by the ATM. Not cool, banks!
Luckily for us frugal budgeteers there’s a solution. I found out afterwards that Charles Schwab debit cards allow you to take out money for free anywhere in the world! They don’t charge any fees themselves and will automatically refund you for any ATM fees at the end of each month. If you don’t wanna get taken to the cleaners by the darn greedy banks of the world I highly suggest you get this card! I believe it’s free to set up an account with them. No I am not a sales rep of theirs, just a friendly guy who doesn’t want men in suits to steal all you money 🙂
Secondly, I wanted to share with you all that I’m raising funds for this trip through Kickstarter. If not to donate to the cause (I know I know you’re already paying for your own tuition, but maybe your grandparents pity me?), at least check out the project as a part of my extended introduction! I’ve written/spoken a lot about what I intend to put into this trip, etc.
Finally, best of luck to you all with packing and preparing for the trip. Stoked! See you soon,
