Hello From Montana

My name is Riley Slater. I’m a recent high school graduate and I’m eighteen years old. I was born and raised in Bozeman, Montana. I have traveled to both coasts and Mexico. I’m extremely ecstatic to explore India, learn more about another culture, and meet all of my peers!

I found Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s Ted Talk to be quite interesting and insightful. She makes light of an ever present problem that all humans suffer from, only viewing the world from our own perspective. Doing this causes us to not see other’s full potential and categorize them less then what they’re worth or capable of. Something I greatly admired about Chimamanda was her first example where she immediately showed that not even she was immune to labeling and judging.

This Ted Talk was very timely with our upcoming trip to India because we’re going to be exposed to different people, lifestyles, and cultures. I look forward to having an open mind and embracing all levels of society, which will help me learn more about the wonderful things that India and her people have to offer.

I’m looking forward to meeting everyone on the trip! It will be a new experience for me and I can’t wait to go!
