My name is Isabella Solimene and I am from Chicago, Illinois. I am taking a Gap Year between high school and college and will be going to University of Colorado-Boulder next Fall!
At the age of four, I was adopted from Vietnam and have lived in Chicago all my life. I am actually one of seven and to be exact I fall in line as number five. Starting at a young age, I have always had this urge to travel and because of that I have had the privilege to visit so many countries. This will be my first time in Nepal and like stated above, I live in Chicago, so I’m most excited for the change in scenery!
A lot of what this program will offer over the next few months are many things I have never experienced, even after all these years of traveling. I have never been trekking/hiking in any mountainous region (I am certain this trip will help me get ready for some of the many activities I will do in Colorado!), and I also have never had the experience to delve deeper into a new religion. Vietnam is predominantly Buddhist and that is also the religion my birth family practices. In the words of The Cultureur, a travel inspiring blog, travel makes you realize that no matter how much you know, there’s always more to learn. With so many new experiences and challenging adventures ahead of us, I can not be more happy to begin this exciting journey with all of you in just one week!
Until then, happy packing (and cramming) and I look forward to seeing you all at JFK…oh so soon!
