Hey everyone, I’m Wilson and I excited for our trip to begin. It just suddenly hit me that there’s only a week until we leave, and I realized that I really need to get my stuff together for this trip. I’m looking forward to seeing a new part of the world together and learning a ton of new things.
I’m from a small town in Vermont called Norwich, about an hour and a half east of Middlebury, Josie’s hometown. I was also planning on bringing maple syrup with me, but I guess I’m going to have to bring maple sugar candy instead (it’s delicious). I moved here from Texas when I was 5, and I fell in love with the outdoors right afterwards. I love hiking, backpacking, and canoeing, no matter the time of the the year.
Last June I graduated from high school and decided to defer my admission to McGill University in Montreal until this coming fall. I then spent the summer working at a camp where I’ve worked for years. In the fall I backpacked The Camino Frances and Camino Finisterre, a journey that took me from southern France across Spain to Santiago de Compostela and then to the Atlantic. Since then, I’ve been working at a nearby LL Bean Store selling shoes and dealing with people paying for $12.72 of socks with a check.
Looking ahead, I’m extremely interested in both economics, history, and political science. After studying these things academically, I’m looking forward to learning about them firsthand from people who have lived through recent historical events and who are wrestling with significant economic and environmental issues. I’m also excited to explore the natural landscape and to experience a culture that is so different from my own.
I’m looking forward to meeting all of you in a week!
