Our Day in Bhaktapusr

Our first four days in Nepal have been filled with the beauty of the Himalayan mountains, our very first language classes, and a deeper understanding of the culture. During our language classes we’ve learned simple phrases that proved useful while we explored the old city of Bhaktapur.

While at first nervous about navigating the labyrinth of a city, a scavenger hunt, everything we have learned, and a lonely planet guide book made the daunting task possible.

Its historical brick streets are lined with shrines to Hindu and Buddhist gods. There are people celebrating their beliefs with flower, water, smells, and colors. We felt by turns alienated, lucky, and awestruck wandering through the city. Most of all, the experience was eye opening to the multi-faceted culture of Nepal.
