Trek View on Nepal: Himalayan Studies Gap Year Semester with Where There Be Dragons

Student Introduction

Hi everyone!

My name is Emily and I’m from a small town in Vermont. I graduated high school last spring, I knew I wanted to take a gap year to grow as a person and get to know myself before college. I deferred from Bennington College which is a small school in Vermont.

I love art more than anything, so I knew I wanted part of my gap year to be art focused. However I also wanted a completely new experience I could truly grow from. I decided to go to Italy and Greece with an art program called the Aegean Center. The first month we spent in Italy going to museums and churches and learning art history. The second two months we travelled to Greece and spent our time on an island taking art classes at the school they have there. I learned so much from the classes I took there (I took painting and drawing). It was a great experience that I’m so grateful for, but I still wanted something a little more outside my comfort zone. I really wanted to learn more about spirituality and connect with nature as well with others.

When I found Dragons I finally felt like I found what I had been looking for! I’m so excited, but to be honest I’m quite nervous too. I know as soon as I meet you all the nerves will turn into even more excitement. I’m especially looking forward to getting out in nature along with the Buddhist retreat. Although I’m truly excited about everything and sharing these experiences with all of you.

I can’t wait to learn more about all of you as I know you are all interesting individuals with great stories to tell!

See you soon!
