Mount Bromo

Hi Family and Friends,

We’re currently on our 8 hour train ride back to Jogja after visiting Mount Bromo in the east part of Java.  We spent two nights in Cemoro Lawang, the village closest to Bromo, and were quite happy to be greeted with cool weather. Saturday morning we woke up at 2:45 and were off by 3 to begin our walk to a viewpoint at the top of a moutain to watch the sunrise over Mount Bromo. This beautiful view featured three volcanoes including the tallest volcano in Java. It was definitely worth the early start.

After a relaxing afternoon of tea and naps, we ventured out again to climb to the top of Bromo. We passed over the volcanic plain covered in black ash from Bromo’s erruptions every five years, and then made our way up the 200 stairs to the viewing area overlooking the crater. Greeted by the strong smell of sulphur, we were standing right at the edge looking down into the boiling water at the bottom of the crater.

We all really enjoyed our mini X-Phase and are looking forward to our last full week in Jogja. We love and miss you all!
