We wanted to give you some information on electronics for the course and we hope that the guidelines presented here will help clarify our electronic policy. In fact, you do not need electronics in this course but if you wish to bring something, we hope the following guidelines will be of help.
Devices such as cell phones, computers, I-pads, tablets, iPods, gaming devices etc are not allowed. If you arrive on course with aforementioned items, we will hold them for the remainder of the course and hand them to you on departure. Since much our travel is rugged and lugging them all around can increase chances of damage, we prefer to keep them safely at orientation and hence you won’t be able to use those items at any point during the course. Please make sure to note that phones and these devices will not be allowed even if they are deactivated because these devices still have a lot of potential to alter the experience. But please do not worry, you’ll have sufficient opportunities to connect with family and friends via internet cafes and pay phones. The instructor team will make sure to help you connect back home if it’s important.
We allow devices such as cameras, e-readers without phone, internet or wifi abilities. Please do keep in mind that moderation is the key. If these devices become distractions from the experience then we will talk with you on how we can assist in moving forward. We hope that you co-operate with us in this process. When it comes to reading, we have found that books happen to be much better options than e-readers as you can easily swap and share with one another. You can also access the program house library which is well equipped with plethora of great reads. And as for cameras, please don’t worry if you don’t want to bring one, at the end of the course we will create a google drive and collect the pictures from everyone and share them amongst us.
Most of the students mention how incredibly enriching it is to be disconnected from the technology and express their gratitude to the instructor team in facilitating it by holding a strong line with the technology policy. We at Dragons strongly believe in power of unplugged travelling and in our courses we explore what it means to be truly connected to the present, to be connected to the people around us and to be connected to the ground on which we stand on and the air we breathe. Our modern electronic devices make it very easy to distance ourselves from the experience. We hope that you understand the value of this incredible opportunity to be disconnected and find the freedom and the joy in it together.
Please do not hesitate to reach out to us if you have any questions. Looking forward to connecting with you all.
