Hi Everyone!

Hey guys! My name is Gabby Rachman and I am SUPER excited to be a part of the Yangtze River Summer Program!

Here’s a little bit about myself: I live in New York City with my parents, my younger brother (we are five years apart) and my cat, who is ADORABLE!! I am a sophomore at Friends Seminary, which is a small quaker school near Gramercy Park, and I have been going there since last year. Even though I started going to this school not too long ago, I love it there so much (except for the homework) and it feels like I have been going since kindergarten. I am on the volleyball team, swim team, orchestra, and a cappella club at my school, and my favorite subject this year is chemistry.

One of my favorite things in the entire world is music. I have been playing the flute for years and I sing a little bit, but I LOVE LOVE LOVE listening to music, especially rock! My favorite bands are Queen and Panic! At the Disco. I also love Broadway, and I saw Dear Evan Hansen a few months ago (I cried for the entire second half of the show! And I don’t normally get emotional!!).

I have been studying the Chinese language for about five years now, and I am excited to go to China because I am ready to put my skills to use. The reason I joined this particular program, however, is because I want to learn more about China’s culture and values. To be honest, I am not sure what to expect, nor am I sure how different China is from the United States, but I am excited to learn about everything on this trip!

I am also a bit nervous because this will be my first time outside of North America! AHHHH!! As nervous as I am, I am willing to step out of my comfort zone, live in the moment, and make some awesome memories!

Can’t wait to meet you all!

Gabby
