Hello Haverford Educators and Students!
Southeast Asia holds a special place near and dear to my heart. I can’t wait to meet you and begin our journey together exploring Cambodia- The Kingdom of Wonder. Cambodia never fails to provide an intense sensory experience; the thick humidity, the tasty, refreshing taste of exotic fruits, the towering historic Buddhist temples covered in intricate carvings, and the chatter of friendly, smiling locals. On our journey, we will explore a fascinating country where the old is juxtaposed with the new.
I’m very excited to be returning to Cambodia for the second consecutive summer. I have a deep appreciation for Asian culture as I grew up spending the summer months in Thailand, my mother’s homeland. Determined to bring me up well rounded, my parents enrolled me in a remote Northern Thai province school during the summer breaks. There, I was immersed in the language and schooled in the customs and traditions of Thai culture. Upon graduating from Virginia Commonwealth University, I moved to Bangkok to spend a year teaching art and English to primary school students. During the monsoon season, I went on a motorcycle trip throughout Vietnam and Laos.
As an art educator, I am passionate about the arts and I enjoy working with a variety of art mediums. My background is in photography and the first thing I pack on a trip is my camera. If you are interested in exploring a creative approach to document and process your travel experiences, I am here to support you and help you tap into your unique creative abilities. I have found that I am able to be more reflective about my travel experience when developing artwork.
I’m greatly looking forward to the profound, immersive experience that we will share in Cambodia. I am eager to see where your curiosity and wonder will lead us and what gems we will unearth as a group. Our trip is right around the corner! Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions at all about our upcoming trip. I’m excited to meet you soon.
All my best,
