I have been a social studies teacher in New York City for the past 11 years. I currently teacher at a small high school in Elmhurst, Queens. Our population is 100% recently arrived immigrant students. While the majority of our students are from Central and South America we do have a population of students from Bangladesh, Russia, Nepal and China. My classroom is a mixture of spoken languages and cultural experiences. All of which makes teaching Global History fun. While in Bolivia, I am seeking to to deepen my understanding of how individuals and communities outside of the United States respond to climate change. I am interested in talking to Bolivians about the impact of climate change. I have found that lessons that approach learning using personal stories and experiences work best with my students. I am willing to learn a different point of view. At the moment – As I scroll through all the readings , I have yet to develop a point of view!!
