Suggested Reading: Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane by Lisa See

We are excited about meeting you all in just a few days to start our Dragons trip! I attached a selfie of us from a few days ago at Rock Creek in Sierra National Park.

I’d like to recommend the fictional novel Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane by Lisa See. You might enjoy reading the book to learn more about the experience of the Akha ethnic minorities in Yunnan province and the economic impact on their community of a famous local wild grown tea (Pu’er Tea). I just finished reading the book and found it both entertaining and educational. The book tells to story of Li-yan, a girl from the tea mountains of Yunnan Province, and her daughter who is adopted by Americans and is growing up in California. Li-yan grapples with how to reconcile expectations from Akha culture with her own personal goals and dreams in the face of a rapidly changing world. The story is also an engaging tale of a mother and a daughter searching for each other after being split by twists of fate between the US and China.
