In terms of water purification, we are going to be boiling water in homestays/whenever we have access to a stove (most of the trip). This is the most effective way of water purification. But it is also good to have a secondary means for travel days/days in the city where we won’t want to be buying water in disposable plastic bottles.
Our participants have the most success with steri-pens (esp. the USB rechargeable ones). This is the most convenient (and expensive answer). Other than that, getting some aqua-mira at a camping store is also a cheap, viable option. It does not have a strong taste and makes sure all the water we drink will hydrate us, and nothing more.
