Hi! My name is Kate Macakanja, and I’m from Chicago (go Cubs!). I live with my parents and my younger sister; we have a dog named Carson. In my free time I like to read, write, spend time with my friends, and be outdoors. I love to rock climb, and I’ve been working with UNICEF for the past several years. At Princeton, I’m hoping to study astrophysics. I’ve always loved space, and a lot of the new interdisciplinary opportunities in the field are fascinating to me.
I’m so excited to go to Senegal! I love to travel, and I’m thrilled to get the chance to delve in to a new culture. This is an adventure, and I love adventure. I’m excited to take a year off from school to learn in a totally different way, and I’m confident that this experience will be life-changing.
