Ladakh is a beautiful mountainous region with small streams and rivers running through the valleys. The water creates life in a place that would otherwise be inhospitable due to its extreme altitude. Monasteries dot the mountain sides and it feels as if you could touch the clouds. The mountains are the color of rust, similar to the sands of the Mojave or Gobi deserts. When the sun rises from behind the mountains a chorus of birds burst into a shrill song, natures alarm clock. Patches of light paint the rock faces north, east, south, and west, and add depth to the ominous precipices. Standing in the middle of these million year old mountains reminds you of your own humanity and how small you are in this big, menacing, mysterious, and widely unknown word.
