My instructors presented our group the idea of a magic statement. I responded as follows…
This month in Guatemala was the best experience of my life because of countless reasons. Through connections I made with people, new or old, I created the best experience of my life. Through perseverance in uncomfortable situations, I made this trip the best experience of my life. Through developing my Spanish towards comfortable standards, I created the best experience of my life. Through best friends, knowledge, and laughter, I made this the best experience of my life.
“In a world that is characterized by being unfair, permaculture creates a fair lifestyle throughout the world.” IMAP (Instituto Mesoamerico de Permacultura) continues to inspire me as I’m sure it does to my fellow students. Christian, a worker at IMAP, has been our leader for most of our IMAP journey and spoke those inspirational words.
I’d like to share with you a short excerpt from the beginning of my journal:
“Today has been the beginning of what I know is going to be a brilliant adventure. Leaving all of my loved ones behind is what I believe is going to be the hardest part of the trip for me. Meeting new people and becoming friends with people from all around the world is a new and extremely welcome experience which I am looking forward to.” From last night’s entry; “Over the past year I have experienced more than I ever thought I would. Heartache and overwhelming sadness has become familiar to a point of discomfort. I envisioned this trip as a way to heal scars and wounds that have been opened over the past year. Over the past 7 days I have found that this trip has been more rejuvenating and healing than I could have ever imagined. Through the intellectual and emotional support I have found in the instructors and the newly made friends, I have found Where There Be Dragons and the country of Guatemala to create a home for me to be me.
Thank you all.
