After settling into our homestays in Quetzaltenango, we headed to Xela to celebrate the halfway mark of our trip! We spent the morning chilling and walking around the city center, as we took turns meeting with the group leaders to talk about our “pros and grows” of the trip so we can make the most out of the second half. We had an amazing lunch at a local restaurant and split up into smaller groups to do a scavenger hunt throughout Xela. Its a great way to get to know the city and practice our Spanish with the locals.
We cannot wait for our trek later this week, but in the meantime we are looking forward to working at the Chico Mendez reforestation project and getting to know our new host families!
