Hello hello hello! I’m Leila from a suburb of Detroit, Michigan. I’m beyond excited about Bridge Year as I look forward to stepping(or leaping) out of my comfort zone. In my free time, you can find me trying new foods, playing tennis, reading, and watching TV. I also love service and actively volunteer for an international NGO called CISV- which stands for Children’s International Summer Villages. CISV has the goal of fostering global friendships and cultural understanding beginning with children. This is something I look forward to exploring more in India. In addition to my work in the Detroit area, I have participated in CISV peace education camps in England, Indonesia, Italy, and most recently as a counselor in Mexico.
More relevant, however, is the fact I spent 4 years in my school’s Indian American Student Association, not because I have any Indian blood, but because I love the culture. Plus the dances we put on for a charity show are great exercise! Needless to say, I’m beyond excited to spend 9 months volunteering in the country whose culture (and food) already has a special place in my heart.
I may be looking forward to India but I’m possibly more excited to be spending time with all the amazing people traveling with me on this journey as well as those we will be meeting along the way. When I finally find my way to Princeton, I plan on studying environmental engineering in an attempt to combine my love of helping others, with my passion for engineering.
Looking forward to an amazing year!
