This morning we went on a trek with two local guides who have been custodians of this land for generations. Por Sawat (63 years old) and Por Ma (77 years old) were crushing it through the jungle, cutting back vegetation to show us what was edible, medicinal and poisonous in the forest. We were all blown away by their zeal, outstanding fitness and good humour. They taught us about the importance of sustainable forestry/agriculture and wild food collection. Their hope is that future generations will take care of the land as they have.
