After a beautiful and successful ten days exploring the valleys and mountain passes in Ladakh, the group has safely arrived in Leh! We have been recuperating with warm showers and pizza, reflecting fondly on our amazing trek and rural homestay in Taar.
While for some the trek was new and challenging, for everyone it was an immensely positive experience and we are already missing the routine of spending each day in the rugged terrain of the Himalayas and sleeping each night in a comfortable Ladakhi village, endless cups of tea to help revive and prepare us for more mountains and sunshine.
We especially loved our guides, Tashi, Yangdol, and Angmo. Three strong, funny, inspiring women from the first ever Ladakhi Women’s Trekking Company, they were a constant motivational team, always finding a joke to make and exhibiting unending patience. The group bonded with each guide and we felt so grateful that we were able to experience Ladakh in such capable and positive hands.
Today we leave for the quiet village of Likir, a popular stop for travelers looking for a retreat or an ancient monastery to visit. We will spend 3 days in Likir for our transference, time spent to reflect on our journey and think about how to take this experience home with us in continued meaningful ways. We will also get one last intimate glimpse of Ladakhi village life and what it is like to harvest apricots during the summer months. After Likir, we will return for a day and a night to Phyang – where our time in the Himalayas began – and then we will head back to Delhi for the final days of our trip.
Here are some photos of our trek!
We send love and mountain blessings to those back home!
