Hi everyone! My name is Julia Long (she/her) and I’m from Framingham, Massachusetts. Framingham is an incredibly diverse city, with nearly seventy-five languages spoken in the public school system. Growing up with peers who come from all over the world has made me want to see as much of the world as possible, and to learn about other cultures and peoples. This will be my third opportunity to live and learn outside of the U.S, the first being in China and the second in Valparaíso, Chile. I decided to take a gap year pretty late in the college admission process, but after this trip I will be starting school at Centre College in Kentucky in 2019. I plan to study biology and English, and to pursue some sort of public-health-related career.
Some fun facts about myself: I’m fluent in Spanish, and have studied it since I was five; I was the captain of my high school swim team last year, and am an avid open-water swimmer; I have four cats, and will probably miss them the most while I am away. I’m so excited to go trekking and to learn about the complex history and vibrant culture of India, and to make friendships that will last a lifetime.
I can’t wait to meet all of you and to embark on this challenging and life-changing experience together.
