Trek View on Nepal: Himalayan Studies Gap Year Semester with Where There Be Dragons

Hey everyone! My name is Sam, I’m 19 years old and I’m from Woodside, California. I went to boarding school at Andover in Massachusetts, and I’m starting at Middlebury College in February. When I was 14, I went on a 6 week long Dragons course in China to study Mandarin. From that, my love for studying Chinese and living in China was kickstarted, inspiring me to live abroad in Beijing for my 11th grade year. Needless to say, I can only imagine what these 3 months will inspire in me!

This past summer I went back to China for 2 months to learn how to cook Chinese food and travel the country. I used to work in the kitchen at a Chinese restaurant 2 years ago, but the Chef kept on getting mad at me for cutting the eggplant the “American” way, so I’m glad I can now cut eggplants in both fashions. When I’m not in China this summer, I love reading, hiking, playing tennis and golf, and now, cooking. In college I plan to major in international politics and economics with a possible minor in philosophy, but thats still not 100% set in stone.

I’ve always been fascinated with Nepal and the Himalaya, a combination of the culture and landscape just drew me in. As a result, I am extremely looking forward to the backpacking and homestay elements of this journey, and of course, experiencing it all with you guys!

See you all soon!
