My name is Kate and I am from Big Sky, Montana. Big Sky is a rural ski resort town located about an hour from the west entrance of Yellowstone National Park. I love to ski, hike, ride horses, and mountain bike. I graduated high school a semester early this last January and spent the spring semester taking a wilderness EMT course through NOLS in Lander, WY. Following the course I worked on ski patrol at Big Sky.
I am attending Bates College in Maine starting in the fall of 2019! I am interested in studying international relations and public health.
Last summer I spent 6 weeks in Indore, India studying Hindi through the National Security Language Initiative for Youth (or NSLI-Y) Scholarship. This program was centered around classroom language learning in a traditional school setting as well as cultural studies and sparked my interest in India and Hindi. I decided to apply to Where There be Dragons because it would extend the elements of the NSLI-Y program that I loved–homestays, language, and cultural study–while also allowing me the ability to travel and see so much more of the amazing country.
