Namaste, tashi delek, hello!
My name is Nick, and I couldn’t be more excited to introduce myself and begin this incredible journey that we will be embarking on together. I came from Maine, but I have been living in Asia for several years now and, like many other travelers before me, I have been deeply touched and transformed by the myriad people and places of South Asia and the Himalaya, my home-away-from-home.
My travels began right here with Where There Be Dragons, when I joined a semester course in Nepal. This experience altered my life for the better, setting me off on a path of wonder and exploration of the outer world and within myself, and drawing me to continue my involvement with Dragons later on. Since then, I have completed graduate studies of Buddhism and Hinduism, become certified as a Wilderness EMT, and found a place for myself in the field of experiential education. More recently, I have worked for several years in the fields of development and academic education, and as a Dragons instructor, in India and several neighboring countries including Nepal, Bhutan, the Maldives, and China. I am writing from Mussoorie, one of India’s lovely Himalayan hill stations, and getting really excited for our upcoming semester together!
India is vast, more than any other place I have seen in the world. Its endlessly diverse peoples, geography, ecology, religious traditions, and cuisine are all so colorful and full of masaalaa (spice)! With an extremely long history of global connection, its current status as the world’s largest democracy, and new treasures to find in every village, in every temple, and with every person, we will have so much to learn and unpack together. Traveling in places like India is difficult, surreal, heavenly, overwhelming, and everything in between all at once, and I commend all of you for your courage and drive in choosing to undertake an experience like this! I can’t wait for the journey to start, though the time before then will fly by.
The Dragons experience shaped the person that I have become in so many ways, and I am honored to share that experience with all of you this fall. I’m looking forward to reading your introductions in the coming days; please do post one soon so we can all start getting to know one another.
See you soon!
