Dear students a big hello to you!
Warm greetings from the Himalayas.
Congratulations on taking the opportunity to be a part of a wonderful, motivating and empowering experience with Dragons.
My name is Sharon Sitling and I am one of your instructors for your semester program in Nepal this fall. I will be working along with two other instructors who are exceptionally capable and gifted leaders. We are very lucky to have them aboard our team on this course. I am so excited about the program and much more that you will be joining us here on this journey. I believe this will be one of the best decisions that you have ever made.
My journey with Dragons has been filled with lots of exploration and discovery for students and myself alike. This will be my fifth course with Dragons and as much as I love traveling, I am excited to have this opportunity to share about this region, the people and the rich culture of this place with you.
I was born in the foothills of the Eastern Himalayas in India. Straight after college I moved to the U.S and lived there for a while. I was blessed to have the opportunity then to get to see and experience two different cultures and to learn to appreciate it. Whenever I can I try to take the best of both worlds and cultivate it in my daily life.
Presently, I am balancing life between being a Dragon’s instructor and taking time off to be with family and friends and to work together with them towards developing a fully sustainable organic farm in a place called Sittong, my native maternal place.
This summer I worked in Sikkim with an amazing batch of students and co-instructors. During the program we got to take part in the rice paddy plantation, in this region the summer/monsoon season is the most important time for planting most of the crops including the staple crop i.e rice. We enjoyed the experience thoroughly. Refreshed and rejuvenated I feel ready to be a part of this fall semester course. I am so excited as each course I have worked has been a unique experience altogether.
I am looking forward to meet you all and to share and learn from each one of you. The instructor team has been working relentlessly together with our Program Director Christy and the Dragons office in Boulder to ensure this semester is safe, educational, motivating, and an empowering experience for you all.
My goals this fall is to ensure safety and to assist each one of you while you are gaining a better sense of understanding of yourselves, the environment you will be in and the people you will be interacting with. Keeping in mind to do all of these while having fun! I hope through your time spent here you will come to learn more about yourselves and about this beautiful country.
I highly encourage you to read former Dragon students Yak postings. These can give you an insight into what your experience will feel like. I would also like to request you to take out some time to write and post your introductions, as we would love to know more about you.
As we get closer to our departure, if you have any questions, ideas, or comments please feel free to email me anytime at [email protected]
