We spent today learning about Theravada Buddhism. We visited Wat Suan Dok in the morning and met with young novice and ordained monks from different Asian countries who are currently studying at the temple. Students gained insight into what life as a monk is actually like by participating in a “Monk Chat” session where 2 students formed small groups with 3-4 monks.
In the afternoon we visited Wat Prathap Doi Suthep, the most famous temple in Chiang Mai. We received blessings from the monks and walked around the stupa to gain merit.
We debriefed the entire day together on a lookout overlooking Chiang Mai city. We shared our experiences/learnings and knowledge gaps in an effort to gain deep understanding into Buddhism and spirituality in general.
Tomorrow our leader of the day, Avery, will be in charge of “Yakking.” Then each student will post a Yak each day as part of their leadership responsibilities.
Stay tuned for more!
