My name is Paige Silverstein and I live in Port Washington, New York. I have lived here my entire life which is one of the reasons I am so excited to be traveling to and living in Senegal with all of you. I recently graduated from Friends Academy, a Quaker school on Long Island. Outside of school I spend most of my time at the dance studio but I also love to read, hang out with friends and family, and of course spend way too much time watching Netflix. I’m also very involved in my temple. For the past three years I have been president of the temple youth group and taught Hebrew School for the K,1,2 class. My synagogue has always been such an incredible community for me, so I want to make sure I create that same community for the kids who are younger than me. This year I also spent a lot of time at the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratories studying Pancreatic Cancer. I am in the School of Engineering at Princeton and hope to study sustainable energy and how technology impacts society. I have so many interests and passions from dance, to religion, to global development, to technology. I can’t wait to explore and develop my interests and passions outside of the typical classroom setting next year.
As someone raised in an interfaith household who then attended a Quaker high school, I have always been fascinated by religion and how it connects communities. I have not had a lot of exposure to Islam and am very excited to take this opportunity to learn about a new religion and culture. I spent my entire life living in a small town surrounded on three sides by water, and I could not imagine it any other way. Sunsets, walks on the dock, hanging out by the sound. I am so excited to be living on the sandy beaches of Yoff next year hopefully making my transition a little bit easier.
I can’t wait to start this journey with everyone!
See you all in JUST THREE WEEKS!
