Cultural Exchanges at Lakshmi Ashram

On September 20th, our group had the privilege of visiting Lakshmi Ashram, an all-girls ashram founded 70 years ago by a disciple of Mahatma Gandhi. During our time at the ashram, we had the opportunity to help with the students’ daily chores (in the case of Logan and myself, cleaning the cow shed), cook lunch with the older students, and take part in an exchange of songs from our respective countries. Despite our rather out of tune rendition of “Take Me Home, Country Roads” being thoroughly eclipsed by the students’ performance, a splendid time was had by all. We left Lakshmi Ashram with incredibly fond memories of the day, and an intent to take the students up on the much repeated invitation to “come back soon.”
