Gender and pronouns

Hi again,

Before we head out, I just wanted to let you all know that I am non-binary, and I use “they/them” pronouns. I’m not sure how aware everyone is on these issues, so I’m going to give a brief gender intro here.

I’m non-binary, meaning I’m neither strictly a man nor strictly a woman. For me, I feel like my gender is something outside of those two categories. If you imagine gender as a spectrum between masculinity and femininity, I’d fall right in the middle. I use “they/them” pronouns because those are the only pronouns that actually fit my identity. Grammatically, using “they/them” works the same as if I were multiple people, or as if I was an individual of unknown gender identity. For example, one might say, “I know Ariel. They’re from D.C.”

I hope this all is clear enough, and I’m happy to talk about gender whenever. Just please use gender-neutral language when referring to me and respect my pronouns.
