I discovered Where There Be Dragons through gap year advisor Marion Taylor, and its reputability stuck out. The musical ISP option (which was rare in other programs) attracted me, and West African drumming especially appeals to me. It’s supposed to be the origins of syncopation/groove in Western music (jazz, funk, hip hop, etc.) – and pretty relevant to contemporary music. I want to understand how life in a developing country is different from my own. I feel that I’ll see some truths about being human, that I haven’t found in my relatively sheltered life. Music is a big passion of mine, and I love playing the guitar and listening to music. I love to meditate, and spending time with friends is important to me.
