Trek View on Nepal: Himalayan Studies Gap Year Semester with Where There Be Dragons

Introduction

Hi All!

My name is Jack O’Connor and I just finished my freshman year at Bowdoin College. I’m an avid tennis and piano player, and I absolutely love trekking and exploring new places. I’ve done some extended trips in the White Mountains, Olympic National Park, and Alaska, but nothing even close to the Himalayas. I’m excited (and a bit nervous!) to enter a region and culture completely unlike my own. The main reason I’m taking a gap semester is because there’s no better time than the present, and although I love to travel it will undoubtedly be harder to do once I’m working and out of school. I have a good friend that I met through a NOLS course, Mingma, who grew up in Nepal. He’s given me a bunch of interesting tidbits about Pokhara, Kathmandu, and the mountains so I can’t wait to see it all through my own eyes and tell him about our adventures after.

I haven’t started packing yet (I’m an awful procrastinator) but come September 15th I will be all geared up and ready to go. Can’t wait to meet everyone, you guys seem cool.
