The Himalayas

The Kathmandu valley is almost constantly ringed by dense, low lying clouds that almost resemble the distant Himalayan peaks they obscure. Their likeness to the tallest mountains on earth is so uncanny that you might—and we often do—glance past the horizon and fail to recognize that the clouds had cleared and the peaked white protrusions that you assumed were passing clouds were actually the beautiful faces of Sisapangma and Dorjelhakpa.

Today was not one of those days. Today we walked out of the classroom we were meeting in, gathered on the steps that lead up toward the guesthouse, and looked upon the Himalayas for the first time.
