Hi everybody ! Here is a poem I wrote during our homestays in Tiquipaya. I wrote it as a way to reflect on and process all that I was (and still am) learning :
I wonder why I’ve come here to this never ending springtime,
To this land where my ancestors ripped your silver from the earth
Only for them to find that there would never be enough time
To let all of your treasures quench their never ending thirst
And I wonder how I sit here holding shiny little knick knacks
Mandated by my people the necessities for life
Never asking, never wondering how all these little knick knacks
Could somehow be the fruits of plants sewn by the seeds of strife
And yet I go on being here, using your space, breathing your air
And thinking that I know what’s best for all of us and all of you
When in truth I can not guess, how best to help, how best to care
And so perhaps it’s better now simply to learn and not to do
